New Glasgow – While Nova Scotians will have to wait one more year for a long-coveted February holiday, about 75 municipal workers with the Town of New Glasgow will get it this year – thanks to their new union contract.
CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland says, “Under their new collective agreement, the third Monday in February has been designated as a holiday. It will be replaced by the provincial holiday once that comes into effect in 2015.
Sutherland says the Town is to be commended for taking this progressive step for its employees.
Currently, two-thirds of Canadians live in a province that observes a February statutory holiday. The holiday was first celebrated as far back as 1990.
