A message to all CUPE staff and members

Please be advised, it is illegal to publicly broadcast or post any election results before all the polls have closed on Election Day - May 2, 2011.

Until the last polls close in ALL electoral districts on Election Day, the Canada Elections Act prohibits the dissemination of:

  

For example: a person in St. John’s, N.L., cannot publish election results until the last poll closes in Vancouver, B.C.

No election results, advertising or opinion surveys will be posted by CUPE representatives on Election Day. Consult the chart below for polling station times.

It should also be noted that posting preliminary results on Twitter and Facebook on Election Day could result in a $25,000 fine (and/or jail time) if a formal complaint is filed.
