In fact, environmental degradation may be overcome by competition and technological innovation. For example, educated consumers will vote with their wallets and seek out environmentally friendly products. There is no necessary contradiction between growth, profit and the environment.

Of course it is true that profit can be made out of environmental protection. Many companies have found that “Green is Gold”. But what happens when profits cannot be made in this way?

A more ecological perspective would conserve the world’s resources; redistribute global wealth; ensure that global development respects social justice and equalize our level of consumption across borders.
