CUPE 4628, The Syndicat du personnel administratif du CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, expresses its strong opposition to the insensitive gesture of its employer: Santé Québec has been distributing frivolous quizzes despite the current crisis. The health care system is in a fragile state, and the union is currently experiencing job cuts and bumping, increasing the sense of insecurity among staff. Despite this alarming situation, employees have received an email inviting them to take part in a spring-themed quiz. And members are not happy about it.
“How can they be so disconnected?” exclaimed Christine Leduc, president of CUPE 4628. “Don’t they have anything better to do? It is unbelievable that they’re producing quizzes in these difficult times.”
The union has learned from CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal that the cuts have already affected over 150 positions, and more are to come. This leads to a chain of position bumping, which, in turn, causes great anxiety for many workers. In addition, the employer’s communications with members are felt to be inadequate and incomplete. The only clear information: Santé Québec will be cutting staff members.
“Yet, they have time to create and send out a spring quiz!” decried the union president. “This lack of judgment and consideration is both distressing and insulting for employees who put their heart and soul into keeping the system afloat.”
