Leap ManifestoCanada’s largest union is pledging its support to the Leap Manifesto Canada, and the vision it lays out for a 100 per cent clean economy. Paul Moist, national president of CUPE, is urging CUPE’s over 633,000 members to join him in signing the declaration to take the leap in fighting climate change.

“Addressing the devastating effects of climate change is the most pressing and urgent issue of our lifetime,” said Moist, who took part in the launch of the declaration at an event in Toronto. “The Leap Manifesto shows us the way forward in fighting climate change in a way that will help us build a better and fairer Canada.”

CUPE members and all Canadians are asked to sign the declaration, and reject the false choice pitting the economy against the planet. The Leap Manifesto calls for an approach to combatting climate change that achieves justice for Indigenous peoples, creates more and better jobs, restores our social safety net, welcomes more migrants and refugees to Canada, and reduces inequalities in all it’s forms.

“The time for small steps towards addressing climate change is over,” said Moist. “This declaration should inspire all Canadians to take a bold leap forward in fighting climate change in a way that changes our country for the better.”
