CUPE’s National Executive Board met recently and wholeheartedly endorsed Lily Chang, a long serving executive member of CUPE 79, for the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Labour Congress. The elections will take place at the CLC Convention from May 4 to May 8 in Vancouver.
“We are proud to endorse Lily and excited to support her campaign moving forward,” said CUPE National President Mark Hancock. “Lily is a strong advocate for fairness and a strategic communicator with a proven track record when it comes to managing the books.”
Lily held the position of Treasurer for Local 79, CUPE’s largest local representing over 20,000 municipal workers at the City of Toronto, for 13 years. She is currently an elected officer of the local where she focuses on member advocacy and grievance resolution.
Lily has been on the Executive Board of the Toronto and York Region Labour Council for the past four years. She currently chairs the Municipal Committee and is the Executive liaison to the Women’s Committee. Lily just completed a seven-year term as Labour Representative on the Board of Trustees for the United Way of Greater Toronto.
“I am confident that Lily’s financial experience, and a knack for numbers, is just what we need to get the CLC back on track,” said CUPE National Secretary-Treasurer Charles Fleury.
