Mark your calendars now for late March. CUPE will be holding a national conference on contracting out and privatization in Toronto March 27 30.

Since the last privatization conference in 1987! CUPE has had great success fighting back privatization threats across the country. But corporations and some governments have redoubled their efforts, pushing new ways to attack our jobs and profit from public services.

They are using public private partnerships (P3s), competitive bidding, ’alternative service delivery’ and in the most extreme cases, laws that gut our collective agreements to wrestle down wages and inflate profits

To stop this threat, CUPE members need the latest information, effective strategies and the best possible skills. That’s where this conference comes in.

Members from across the country will gather to celebrate our successes, learn from our losses and strengthen our defences. We’ll be looking at ways to expose and oppose privatization threats. And we’ll be sharing strategies for contracting in work and expanding the public sector to create more jobs for young workers and workers fighting for equality.

As well, we’ll be looking at CUPE’s priorities for the coming years as we renew and refocus our anti-privatization efforts.

Further information will be available in the next few weeks but make plans to attend today.
