Turning over control of schools, hospitals and highways to corporations through P3s ignores the evidence from across Canada and around the world, says CUPE Alberta president Yvonne Fast.

Responding to a leaked report that Cabinet would approve a new government agency to promote P3s, Fast wrote Premier Klein requesting a meeting to outline the research CUPE has gathered on P3 schemes.

“Not only do P3s cost more money over the long run, they seriously threaten public accountability and access,” says Fast.

“These costs are going to be borne by school boards, municipalities and health regions. But there is only one taxpayer, so why would the government decide to go this route when the evidence is so clearly stacked against P3s?”
