EDMONTON, ALTA. - The president of CUPE Alberta is calling on her members and other Canadians to contribute to the Red Cross fire relief.

Fires continue to ravage the Northern Alberta city of 80,000 with the entire community being evacuated.   “It saddens us that residents of such a great city, that has provided so much to the rest of the country, are now on the run.  We can only imagine how difficult it is for residents to leave behind their homes and communities and wonder what will be left when they return.”‎

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” said CUPE President Marle Roberts.

You can send a $5 donation simply by texting ‘‎REDCROSS ’ to 30333.

CUPE Alberta will also support members in the community by donating to members who have lost their homes or community members who need accommodations.

“When the same thing happened in Slave Lake, we lent a hand,” said Roberts. “When southern Alberta was flooding, we lent a hand. It’s what Albertans and Canadians do.”
