Close to 200 workers at the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory (RRPL) are joining the ranks of CUPE 5430, the largest health care union in Saskatchewan.

“We are excited to be welcoming workers from the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory to our union,” said Sandra Seitz, President of CUPE 5430. “The work these members do is of paramount importance to the province of Saskatchewan.”

The transfer of RRPL employees into the health region prompted the government to move workers into CUPE’s jurisdiction. The move was preceded by months of negotiations between the Saskatchewan Health Association, CUPE and SGEU to ensure that both RPPL members and CUPE members were treated fairly.

“CUPE 5430 will do our best to stand up for RPPL members’ workplace rights,” added Seitz.
