CUPE has reached a tentative agreement for its members working at the University of British Columbia Aquatic Centre. CUPE 116, representing around 80 members at the Aquatic Centre, reached the deal with UBC last week.

“Our bargaining committee is pleased with the tentative agreement and believe that we have achieved a fair and equitable deal for our members at the Aquatic Centre. I want to thank our CUPE 116 members at the aquatic centre for their support and interest throughout this round of bargaining,” says Dave Lance, president of CUPE 116.

When ratified, the 3-year renewed collective agreement will be in place from January 1, 2023 (retroactively) to December 3, 2025. Further details on the agreement won’t be released until presented to CUPE 116 Aquatic Centre members for a ratification vote next week.

CUPE 116 members provide crucial services at UBC, including approximately 80 workers at the UBC Aquatic Centre. These members work as lifeguards, shift supervisors, instructors, administrative clerks, and front desk attendants.
