The Toronto Civic Employees’ Union, Local 416 (CUPE), represents 6,800 “outside” workers in the city of Toronto, about 6,000 of whom have been on legal strike since Wednesday, June 26th. Local 416 includes water and waste-water workers, sanitations workers, paramedics (EMS), parks and recreation workers, roads and transportation workers, animal services workers and others. Local 416 also represents about 2,300 library workers, who have a strike deadline of July 4th, 2002.
