The budget promises a new system to improve security at airports and in the air. A new federal authority has been allocated $2.2 billion to improve security screening and policing at airports, upgrading training and technology and enforcing national standards. As well, the budget provides for sky marshals, though we don’t yet know if they’ll be on all domestic and international flights.

While details of the system remain sketchy, it’s clear that passengers will shoulder most of the cost with fees ranging from $12 to $24 per ticket.
