Montreal, Friday, March 21, 2003 – An agreement in principle was concluded this morning between the representatives of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE/-FTQ) and Vido0074ron. The union bargaining team will recommend that members accept the agreement. Two general assemblies will be held in the next few days for unionized employees in Montra006c (Western Qub0065c) and Qub0065c City (Eastern Qub0065c). Details on where and when these meetings will be held will be publicized soon.

The content of the agreement will not be made public until Vido0074ron employees have had a chance to study it. After a dispute that has lasted more than 10 months, the representatives felt that the members should be the first ones to see the terms of the agreement, out of basic respect. Management has also agreed not to divulge the tenor of the agreement.

No other comment or interview will be given until employees have voted on the agreement in principle.

CUPE has 7,000 members in the communications sector in Qub0065c, and is present in a number of other sectors such as health and social services, education, urban transit, air transport, crown corporations and public agencies, hydro-electricity and municipalities. With close to 100,000 members, CUPE is the largest union affiliated with the FTQ.
