CUPE members are encouraged to play an active part in this year’s White Ribbon Campaign.

The campaign is a national effort to encourage men and boys to think about their responsibility to help end violence against women. For the past eight years, in the late fall, the campaign has drawn attention to the disturbing rate of violence in the family, in the workplace and in the streets that is directed against women and girls.

The campaign uses TV ads, soccer tournaments and pancake breakfasts to raise awareness and promote action.

But most important, it uses a simple white ribbon to encourage discussion about the origins of violence against women and action in helping to stop it.

In addition to awareness and education, the campaign asks men to join in raising funds to support women’s shelters and other women’s anti-violence programs across Canada.

To support the campaign, you can order ribbons, information brochures, posters and organizers’ kits. To contact the White Ribbon Campaign, call toll free 1-800-328-2228 or visit their Web site .
