We know that 62 per cent of Canadians voted for the parties that have come together to form a coalition government. This is democracy at work. People across Canada have been seriously let down by Stephen Harper who chose to play petty politics for his own interest instead of acting in the interests of Canadians,” said CUPE BC secretary-treasurer Mark Hancock.

Last week’s fiscal update, delivered amidst severe economic uncertainty, should have included concrete measures to protect jobs and pensions, to combat unemployment, and to invest in infrastructure, social programs, and our future. We are facing an economic crisis and our political leaders have to work together. The NDP and the Bloc Quebecois have worked together in the past to support progressive measures for workers, including anti-scab legislation and wage earner protection legislation to protect employees when employers declare bankruptcy.
