THESSALON A government-appointed mediator has called CUPE 3 and its employer, the town of Thessalon Ontario back to the table as the council voted to hire scabs and extend summer student contracts to keep the towns arena open.

City council advertised for temporary workers to run the towns arena in August.

The five members of CUPE 3 have been on strike since June. They work at the arena, community centre and trailer park, and do road work and winter snow removal.

And while the town backed down on its demand to remove anti-contracting out language, management is still holding out for wage cuts and benefit rollbacks.
