Beryl Williams, a retired CUPE Manitoba executive member, wears the sash and holds the pressed rose she wore at the 1981 national convention in Winnipeg. Manitoba’s executive and staff wore the ‘rose for justice’ sash in support of former national president Grace Hartman. The CUPE leader spent 45 days in jail that summer after supporting striking Ontario hospital workers. While in jail, Hartman received a rose a day from CUPE members.
