Halifax – Employees at Ocean View Manor nursing home have ratified a new contract with their employer.

CUPE National Representative Peter Baxter says, “The members of Local 1245, who were the lead table in this round of provincial bargaining on behalf of more than 3,000 CUPE nursing home workers, voted 93% in favour of the deal.

Says Local 1245 president Janet Rolfe, “We are very pleased with the outcome of the vote, and it certainly speaks to the gains we were able to make in this round of bargaining.”

Baxter says the union’s local and provincial bargaining committees are recommending the deal to its members. About one third of the locals have already held votes, with the rest being held across the province over the next couple of weeks.
