Managers at a strike-bound social service agency have asked the Ontario labour ministry to order a vote on their last contract offer.

The move will only serve to prolong the strike and waste time, says CUPE Local 3253 spokesperson Diane Atkinson

Our members are firmly behind the negotiating team, and the employer is again showing a lack of judgment and respect for workers and the communities we serve, Atkinson said. How can the Ontario Liberal government continue to sit on their hands?

The 30 members of Local 3253 work for North of Superior Programs (NOSP), a social service agency whose catchment area covers a huge chunk of Northern Ontario.

Management applied for the labour ministry-supervised vote Dec. 17, while refusing a union proposal to send outstanding issues to arbitration.
