CUPE has been a leader in the fight for equality rights. We have now started the fight to end discrimination on the basis of gender identity.

At the 2001 CUPE convention, members made an important change to the CUPE constitution by amending the equality statement to explicitly include transgender members.

To help members understand what transgender means and provide information on how local unions can support and defend the rights of transgender members, CUPEs Equality Branch has prepared a new fact sheet called Transphobia: A union issue.
