A strike by employees of Hanover Hydro, CUPE 255, has ended with workers winning significant wage increases in a new three-year deal.

Saying they were no longer prepared to work for wages that were significantly lower than their counterparts in surrounding communities, the utility workers went out July 24. Both office and hydro crew workers at Hanover Hydro are members of the local.

The one-year deal included:

  • a wage increase of 3.7 per cent, retroactive to June 2000

  • improvements to the benefit plan

  • lump sum payment of $700.00 for each member following ratification

Local 255 is expecting a representation vote in the very near future along with IBEW, the result of a merger of utilities.
