A group of Halifax high school students calling themselves Engaged Youth for Environmental Sustainability, or EYES for short, are joining the “Turn on the Taps and Ditch the Bottle” coalition.
EYES is run by students at several high schools in the Halifax Regional School Board. The students have chosen to take on the bottled water issue as their first public campaign.
Turn on the Taps spokesperson Jocelyne Rankin says, “We are really excited to have this new group of environmentally conscious students join our coalition. This is going to bring lots of new energy and ideas to our provincial organization.”

The Auburn Drive High Green Team is hosting a Community Water Rally on February 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Auburn Drive High School. The rally will be encouraging the use of reusable water bottles, providing information to students and the public on the importance of safe, clean water and calling for a ban on bottled water at Auburn.
- On February 29, EYES will be making a presentation to the Halifax Regional School Board where they will be asking the Board to look at banning bottled water in all HRSB schools. The presentation takes place at 6:00 p.m. at the Halifax Regional School Board central office at 33 Spectacle Lake Drive, Dartmouth. The general public is invited to attend.
The “Turn on the Taps, Ditch the Bottle” Coalition has been working together in Nova Scotia since 2008, with a goal of promoting the phase out of the sale and provision of bottled water in government facilities.
