CUPE Alberta President Marle Roberts issued the following statement about today’s provincial budget:

The Redford government missed an opportunity to reverse its broken promises of previous years.

Education funding will barely keep up with enrollment, so school boards will continue to be squeezed and students will suffer.

Post secondary education funding will, for another year, not keep up with inflation, meaning schools and colleges will not be able to reverse the reckless and dangerous cuts from last year.

The government has failed to fund Edmonton’s much needed Southwest LRT project, although the Conservatives are very proud of the fact they are building new ring roads.

And finally, health care funding also doesn’t keep up with inflation, even though the province recently saw a windfall of $1 billion in new health care funding from Ottawa.

The 2014 budget starves the services Alberta families depend upon and yet Alison Redford and her inner circle live and travel lavishly on the taxpayers’ dime.
