In its pre-budget consultation submission for the 2016/17 federal budget to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance, CUPE has highlighted the key issues it would like the government to prioritize in the upcoming fiscal year.
The submission called for fundamental changes in direction, by introducing progressive policies to strengthen our economy, create good jobs and improve living standards for all Canadians.
In particular, CUPE made the case for:
- More and better quality jobs, with decent wages and benefits
- A more diversified, innovative and sustainable economy
- Stronger public services and social protections
- A fairer tax system
With a real chance of electing an NDP government in the upcoming federal election, this important change in direction is more possible than ever. On October 19, make sure to vote.
