(New Waterford) CUPE locals from across Nova Scotia have displayed an outpouring of support for one of their union sisters, who died tragically earlier this year.

CUPE National Representative Jacquie Bramwell says the death of New Waterford native Joanne White at the young age of 21, has prompted the response.

White was an employee of New Waterford Homemakers, and a member of CUPE Local 3986.

Responding to an appeal from CUPE Nova Scotia to donate to a fund for Ms. Whites infant son, Anthony Joseph, Bramwell says, To date 26 locals have given to the Joanne White Trust Fund for a total of $2,675.

Says Bramwell, While Joannes death was tragic and shocked us all, we hope that her family can take some comfort in knowing that her union brothers and sisters were deeply touched by this event and have risen to the challenge.

Especially at this time of year, it warms your heart to see such a good response to a worthy cause, says the CUPE National Rep.

Local 3986 would like to publicly thank all of the locals who have given to the fund.

Bramwell says trust fund money can be sent c/o:
