MEDIA ADVISORY

For immediate release
April 24, 2001

Toronto CUPE 4400 members and supporters will demonstrate together outside the Toronto District School Boards Administration Centre tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at 155 College Street.

Well be calling on Trustees to do whats necessary to reach a fair, negotiated settlement, says CUPE 4400 President John Weatherup. A negotiated settlement is the only acceptable solution to end the strike.

CUPE 4400 remains committed to achieving a negotiated settlement, adds Weatherup. We have shown flexibility at the negotiating table and we need to see that flexibility reflected on the employers side.

If the Board is waiting for the province to legislate our members back to work, that would only lead to a poisoned work environment, says Weatherup. We believe a negotiated settlement is achievable and that Trustees need to lead their negotiating team to that solution.
