About 800 workers at SQI filed an application to change their union affiliation and join CUPE-FTQ.
“We needed a change, and we’re pleased to be able to continue with a union that represents not only other SQI employees but also numerous unionized professionals in the municipal sector and major Crown Corporations, such as Hydro-Québec,” says Mario Laroche, interim President of CUPE 5522, the union which represents workers at SQI.
The union adds further strength to CUPE 2929, which represents 500 employees made up of technical, office, and industrial workers.
“We’re enormously proud of the trust placed in us by the workers at SQI, who have decided to join CUPE. We will spare no effort in the coming months to support our new members in their fight for working conditions like their counterparts in other Crown Corporations, whom we already represent,” says CUPE representative Myriam Leduc.
