The Manitoba government has made life incredibly hard for Manitoba’s health care support workers. Beginning in 2017, the government began closing emergency rooms and ICUs, restructuring support staff hours of work and deployment, and throwing the health care system into chaos.
The government then introduced legislation to try to force 0% wage increases on health care support workers and forced amalgamations that left health workers without a contract to this day.
Health care support staff have been on the front lines of the pandemic, struggling every day with short staffing, low morale, and exhaustion, all while doing their best to care for Manitoba patients, residents, and clients.
Health care support workers must be prioritized by the government, and a fair deal for all health care support workers is needed now!
