Transgender and transsexual workers face high levels of harassment and discrimination in employment and accessing health care. That’s why CUPE has taken action to help counter some of these barriers to equality.
A delegation of CUPE members and staff gave a digital poster presentation on the issue and CUPE’s response at the Outgames Human Rights conference in Belgium this summer.
The presentation features quotes from three CUPE activists who have gone through transitions at work, research into the prevalence of discrimination and harassment that trans workers face, and the steps that CUPE and the CLC have taken to counter these problems.
CUPE has also produced a backgrounder with extensive information on the issue.
