Medical technician at workFSSS-CSN and the FTQ have reached an agreement arising from the Conseil du trésor pay equity maintenance exercise in 2010 and 2015 for medical device reprocessing technicians (MDRT). This agreement reached by the FSSS-CSN, CUPE-FTQ, SQEES-FTQ and Conseil du trésor was adopted by the unions at meetings of their respective officials.

“After months of mobilization and representations with the Conseil du trésor, this agreement marks a major victory in putting an end to wage discrimination in the health and social services system,” said Josée Marcotte, vice-president of the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS-CSN), Maxime Ste-Marie, president of the Conseil provincial des affaires sociales of CUPE-FTQ and Sylvie Nelson, president of SQEES-FTQ.

Terms of the agreement

The agreement calls for retroactive payments that could reach $13,000 to which 5% in interest shall be added effective the time the amounts owing were to be paid out. In 2022, the MDRT at the top of the scale will receive an hourly wage increase of $1.65.

The agreement includes an adjustment of 3.66% as of March 20, 2016 and 3.89% as of March 13, 2020 (at the top of the scale)

Attention must now be turned to resolving the pay equity maintenance complaints by office and administrative staff.

The FSSS-CSN, CUPE-FTQ and SQEES-FTQ will continue their mobilization and representations to resolve outstanding pay equity maintenance complaints by office and administrative staff.

“The MDRT agreement shows that when we mobilize, we can get the government to move.  But it won’t stop there!  The government must also resolve complaints by office and administrative staff. They’ve been waiting for more than 11 years to finally receive due recognition for the actual value of their work and their efforts to provide quality service to the public along with changes to their work,” said the union representatives.
