Earth Hour 2014 is Saturday March 29 from 8:30-9:30 p.m. local time. The World Wildlife Fund is once again the driving force internationally behind this environmental hour of action. All CUPE members and staff are encouraged to take part by turning the power off for an hour to conserve energy, yes, but also to reflect on the state of the environment.

Climate change, fresh water exploitation and contamination, reckless resource extraction, deforestation, loss of biodiversity and a host of other environmental problems remain huge challenges to overcome to truly live sustainably and in harmony with the planet.

Solutions exist and CUPE members can take action on both a workplace and community level. Visit cupe.ca/environment for ideas.

Take an hour off this Saturday and do your part. Ahead of time, visit the Earth Hour website for ideas on linking with events in your community, creating your own event, supporting environmental projects, and for updates on trending Earth Hour actions.
