Long-Term Care facilities are facing significant cuts in staffing and working hours. This is not just a budget issue—it’s a health and human rights issue. Staff are already overworked, with long-standing issues around adequate staffing levels causing significant health and safety issues for our members and impacting resident care. These latest cuts are just throwing gasoline on an already out-of-control fire.

Overworked staff are unable to meet the physical and emotional needs of the residents because there are not enough care-givers to meet the work load. Residents are losing the consistency and routines in their care, leaving them without the support they need at critical times like eating and bathing.

Not enough caregivers mean less time for personal interactions with the residents, which impacts on their emotional well-being as well. Over-worked staff members are experiencing increased burn-out, which further harms the care for the residents of the home. Glen Stor Dun Lodge and the City of Cornwall need to reverse these dangerous cuts to protect vulnerable seniors and ensure the best quality of care for the residents of the lodge and increase funding for staff resources to improve quality of care.

Our seniors deserve better. Send a letter to your councilor today!
