The provincial government has neglected to increase resources alongside increasing needs in schools, meaning more students per worker, larger class sizes, and a lack of supports for students with special needs.

This has caused violence to skyrocket in schools across Ontario.

Many education workers across school boards say they frequently face violent incidents at their workplace, with over 70 percent of Educational Assistants and Early Childhood Educators in CUPE Southwestern locals experiencing a violent incident every day.

This severe underfunding leaves students and workers at risk because there are too few staff in schools. It also means students have their learning environments disrupted on a regular basis, creating an environment that is far from conducive to having the highest quality of education.

When workers are safe, students are safe! That’s why we’re asking for your commitment to take action and sign this petition.

Sign your name to demand that the Ford government increases funding for the education sector, hire thousands more Educational Assistants, clerical workers, Early Childhood Educators, maintenance/trades, custodians, IT, librarians, secondary hall monitors, paraprofessionals, drivers, student supervisors and all other job classifications that are so desperately understaffed, and meaningfully address the extreme violence throughout schools in Southwestern Ontario.
