After decades of efforts by child care advocates, including CUPE members, we finally achieved our goal of creating a pan Canadian program for early learning and child care in 2020. This program aims to reduce the cost of child care to $10 a day, increase the number of public and non-profit child care spaces and to ensure inclusive access to high quality and culturally safe child care services for all.
This $10 a Day Child Care Plan, is an incredible win and has already started to transform the way we think about child care in Canada. The plan must therefore continue and grow so that all children have the chance to benefit from publicly funded, high quality, early learning and child care programs.
We are happy to join Child Care Now and other partners in 10 days of action for $10 a Day Child Care from November 20 to 30.
Join us in:
- Celebrating the early successes of the $10 a Day Child Care Plan: All across Canada, families are benefitting from reduced fees and new funding for their centres and home child care programs. Educators and staff in many provinces and territories are benefiting from improved conditions and wages, which have a direct impact on the quality of care for children.

- Supporting early childhood child care workers. Improving working conditions for early learning and child care workers is essential in supporting the expansion of licensed child care and to ensure high quality programs for children. While the plan has already delivered some wage increases and improved benefits, more public funding is needed to strengthen the workforce and to support expansion of the system.
