We are the members of CUPE 4416 who work at the Municipality of Highlands East. We work to maintain your roads, provide clean water, run parks and recreation facilities, manage the landfill and keep administrative operations running.

We are currently in bargaining negotiations with our employer and unfortunately we have not been able to reach an agreement. We are now close to being in a legal strike position. The employer continues to make unfair demands such as changing our members hours of work with little notice. Can you imagine if you never knew if you were working on Saturday or not, week after week- never being able to plan for your childrens hockey trip, dance recital, birthday party or plan a weekend getaway?

Our employer is also refusing to address continued incidents of harassment of our members in the workplace by management. A recent independent investigation found multiple incidents of harassment and even violence by the manager to be true- yet the municipality has done nothing to prevent it from happening again. In fact, the harassment has continued and the municipality has refused to investigate new allegations. We believe that this is unacceptable in any workplace, especially one that is funded by the taxpayers in Highlands East. Your council members have been provided with the investigation summary and have been asked to intervene. Call them and ask them about it.

We need your help to avoid a strike and disruptions to services during the busy summer season.

Please sign the petition and demand that the Municipality of Highlands East negotiate an agreement that respects workers.
