Prime Minister Trudeau,
Canada's airline workers are facing a Mayday moment. COVID-19 has grounded our industry and Canada remains the only country in the G7 without a plan to support workers and ensure there's an industry to return to when the pandemic is over.
When the pandemic struck, we answered your government's call and stayed on the front line to bring Canadians home from abroad. For the past year, as most Canadians were staying home, we kept Canada's communities and businesses connected. Tens of thousands of us have been out of work since March, and we have all sacrificed a lot over the past year - our jobs, our careers, our livelihoods - to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
We have done our part. Now it's time for you to do yours.
Your government must consult airline workers and act now. We need an immediate fix to the CEWS program so more laid-off airline workers can get access. We need rapid testing to make flying safer for the public and cabin crew. And we need immediate financial assistance that puts workers first and sustains tens of thousands of good jobs in this vital industry.
