The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) provides compensation to workers who get sick or injured on the job. It’s one of the most important protections that workers have – but WSIB doesn’t cover everyone.

Among those not covered by WSIB are the workers who work in group homes, supporting people with developmental disabilities. Bill 145 amends the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 to expand WSIB coverage to employees of group homes, as well as employees of residential care facilities, including retirement homes, rest homes and senior citizens’ residences.

Workers in developmental services provide care for some of the most vulnerable people in society. Their work is rewarding, but can also result in the types of injuries that need and deserve WSIB coverage.

Please support Bill 145 when it has its second reading in Ontario’s legislature on November 2.
