Toronto - Over the past year, Ontario residents have shown a commitment to keeping Ontario’s electricity system public. Many Ontario residents have joined with the Ontario Electricity Coalition (OEC), a province-wide pro-public power group in telling the province that deregulation and privatization of hydro would be a dismal failure, causing hardship and serious damage to many individuals, farms, businesses and local utilities.
“Don’t be fooled by Eves’ backtracking on selling off Hydro One. It’s just a pre-election ploy to keep voters on side.
“The worst is yet to come, because price caps and rebates are not long-term solutions to ensuring a stable and reliable hydro system. In December alone, the price caps cost Ontario taxpayers $110 million. Full public control, an end to privatization of electricity generation and an end to deregulation are the solution,” says Paul Kahnert, a spokesperson with OEC.
Once again, the OEC is encouraging you to speak out and help save public power. The OEC will be holding a ’Save Public Power’ meeting on Tuesday, February 11, 2003, starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Niagara Falls Public Library, 4848 Victoria Street, Niagara Falls.
