This course serves as an introduction into the world of health and safety and explores different basic concepts such as: • Identification of hazards; • Hierarchy of controls; • The basic role of health and safety committees; • Basics on the right to refuse. SLS - HS - Preventing Mental Injuries at Work

New forms of work, job insecurity, work intensification, high demands, violence and a resulting poor work-life balance are resulting in psychosocial and mental health problems in CUPE workplaces. This module focuses on the workplace as the cause or a contributor to mental health issues, and not the individual. Discuss strategies and actions that actually help make workplaces psychologically healthier and safer.

HS - Identifying and Documenting Hazards

Pre-requisites: Health and Safety - An Introduction

Nov 20, 2025 (1:00pm-4:00pm (Eastern))

In this module, you will learn techniques for identifying hazards, such as body maps, surveys and inspections. You will also develop a methodology for dealing with the hazards you find. NOTE: Please bring your binder and Health and Safety Committee Resource Kit.

The fee for this course is $80 for affiliated and $90 for non-affiliated and $100 for out of district to hold your your spot. Please make the cheque payable to Sault Ste Marie District CUPE Council 606-421 Bay Street, Station Tower, Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 1X3. Cheque must be received 2 weeks prior to the course, not later than October 31, 2025. Fees covers morning and afternoon snacks.
