The union representatives of the municipal employees in Chibougamau in the Northern Quebec region salute the efforts the municipality has made to protect its workers from COVID-19.

The parties reached an agreement very quickly to distribute the work between two teams. This kept all of the employees on the job while ensuring compliance with safety directives from the public health agency.

The union wishes to underscore the extensive cooperation by the town, which went with this option to ensure that the workers could perform their duties safely and effectively.

“We are quite satisfied with this agreement. The employer demonstrated flexibility in order to reduce the human impact of the pandemic, while at the same time enabling its employees to provide its citizens with nearby services. More than ever, we’re proud to work for the Town of Chibougamau,” said the President of CUPE 1269 Mathieu Robinson.

CUPE 1269 represents 50 members consisting of blue-collar and white-collar employees and technicians.
