CUPE 4254 is welcoming new members into its ranks after a successful organizing drive in the Prairie Spirit School Division in Warman, SK.

CUPE’s organizing drive, which started in November, has added educational associates from Rosthern Elementary School and Rosthern High School and the Perdue caretaker to CUPE 4254’s bargaining unit.

“We are proud to represent 14 new members from Rosthern and Perdue,” said Grace Wudrick, President of CUPE 4254.  “These new members will benefit greatly from being part of Canada’s largest union with job security, enhanced benefits, and many other collective agreement rights.”

“Our new members also strengthen the Local’s ability to speak on behalf of Prairie Spirit support staff to ensure our schools are properly staffed for students.”

CUPE 4254 represents about 400 Prairie Spirit School Division support staff.  Members include EAs, administrative and executive assistants, caretakers and maintenance staff, bus drivers and technicians, and network administrators.

“The CUPE Local 4254 membership has more than tripled in the last 20 years as a result of previous organizing drives,” added Wudrick.

“We will continue to reach out to unorganized workers in our school division to ensure that all support staff will enjoy the benefits of union representation.”
