Peterborough - Over the past year, Peterborough residents have shown a commitment to keeping Ontario’s electricity system public. Many from Peterborough have joined with the Ontario Electricity Coalition (OEC), a province-wide pro-public power group in telling the province, that deregulation and privatization of hydro would be a dismal failure, causing hardship and serious damage to many individuals, farms, businesses and local utilities.

But the worst is yet to come, because price caps and rebates are not long-term solutions to a stable and reliable hydro system. Full public control and an end to privatization and deregulation are, says Paul Kahnert a spokesperson with OEC.

Once again the OEC is encouraging Peterborough residents to speak out and help save public power. Along with local residents, the OEC will be holding a ’Save Public Power’ town hall forum today, Monday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Church, 360 Reid Street, Large Hall.

The OEC will announce a three-point plan aimed at restoring and renewing public power says Kahnert who will be speaking at the Peterborough forum.
