VANCOUVER - Employees of The Childrens Foundation, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, are holding an information picket on Friday, May 31,

from 9 10:30 a.m. at 2750 East 18th Avenue in Vancouver.

The information picket is being held to protest the Ministry of Children and Family Developments decision to eliminate funding to the Esther Irwin Home Program operated by The Childrens Foundation.

The program consists of two, nine-bed, residential treatment centres for children with severe behavioral problems caused by Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and other disorders.

One centre will close on Friday, while the other residential unit will close its doors on June 30.

The long-term residential program provides comprehensive, individual treatment plans, family counselling services and specialized on site classrooms to children 6 12 years of age.

The CUPE members are holding the information picket to publicize the loss of this important program in the city.
