Si, se puede.” Yes, it is possible to wage war against injustice. That was the rousing message of Jose Laluz, director of the United Public Employees of Puerto Rico.

Speaking about the war against terrorism and the suspension of civil liberties in North America, Laluz urged delegates “not to buy into the hysteria and forget about the war against injustice.”

While agreeing the perpetrators of the attack on the United States need to be brought to justice, he warned that working people are going to be the losers of this war – which is rewarding the wealthy at the expense of the needy.

Laluz told delegates working people need strong, powerful, worker-centred unions like CUPE.
