An eleven-week strike at the Universit 0064e Montra006c has ended, with support workers making important wage gains.

CUPE 1244 walked off the job on February 28 to press its demands for pay equity and respect.

The settlement provides wage hikes dating back to 2001 and ties future increases to negotiations in the broader public sector. As well, the number of wage increments has been collapsed from 24 to 12, providing the greatest gains to those members who earned the least.

The settlement also provides for early action to clear a backlog of reclassification requests.

The local, 80 per cent of whom are women, represents more than 2,000 full and part-time employees who work in admissions, the library, residences, food services, recreation services, administration and student records.
