Third in a series of short videos on some of the myths we hear too often on the public health care system. This is part three of four in the video series.

Myth: Privatization will lower wait times in the public system.

Fact: Privatization will divert resources away from the public system. Private clinics most often take the easiest, most profitable operations, while leaving the most complex to the public system. Privatization will not address the health care workers shortages.

This video explores these questions with a panel of experts: Bob Woollard, Bob Evans, Damien Contandriopoulos and Natalie Mehra. Moderated by Erica Johnson, from the CBC, this panel of experts debunks some of the myths surrounding the “crisis” of the Canadian public health care system and the need for further privatization.

Produced by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), 2011. Excerpts from CUPE’s National Health Care Sector Meeting held in Victoria, British Columbia, in the fall of 2010.
