Thousands expected at anti-war rally on February 15

On Saturday, February 15, HEU members can add their voices to the millions around the world who are saying “No!” to a war with Iraq.

In Vancouver, a march and rally to stop the war - only one of many around the world - will start at Canada Place at 12:30 p.m., proceed past the consulates of the United States and the United Kingdom and then continue on to the Vancouver Art Gallery for a rally.

“These two countries, with the U.S. in the lead, are set to pounce on a people who are already suffering from more than ten years of sanctions and bombing,” says HEU secretary-business manager Chris Allnutt.

“George W. Bush wants to drag Canada into participating in this crime against humanity. Canadians have made it abundantly clear that they want no part of his war. Although our country’s leaders are hearing what we are saying - we are too many to ignore - they are not taking a strong stand against Bush’s call to war, and as a matter of fact seem to be teetering on the edge of joining an attack on Iraq.

“So it is time to send the message again - very loud and very clear,” says Allnutt.

He is urging HEU members to come to the march and rally and to count themselves among the thousands who will tell Prime Minister Chretien not to cave into Bush’s war nor to send our own young people to carry out this criminal act in our name.
