Nearly 800 Sodhexo food service workers in hospitals from Sechelt to Richmond BC, have voted 90 per cent in favour of joining HEU.
The ballots were cast in July, but both the French multinational and the IWA, which had cut a deal with the corporation, lodged objections with the labour board.
After the board threw out the objections, the ballots were finally counted this week.
These workers have waited a long time for their voices to be heard and were very pleased theyve chosen HEU to represent them in their workplace, says HEU official Zorica Bosancic.
More than 2,000 other privatized cleaning and food services workers are still waiting for their votes to be counted.
Most of Sodexhos employees in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority earn about $10.25 an hour.
