Support staff at the Université de Sherbrooke have voted to join CUPE. The 1,100 workers, 70 per cent women, strongly endorsed the move in a vote held June 4.
Labour relations are more and more complex says Alain Aubé, president of the independent union that has represented UdeS workers since 1974.
For our members, theres a great advantage to be able to access specialized resources and services. As well, almost all university support workers are CUPE members, so for us its a network for exchange and coordination thats without match, says Aubé.
Aubé cites pay equity and health and safety as just two areas where members were looking to CUPEs experience and expertise.
